We passionately love animals and are committed to providing the best pet care possible to our clients. We believe that pets are part of the family, and consider caring for other people's furry family members a very serious responsibility. We enjoy going on dog walks and love sharing our home with our doggie daycare and boarding dogs.
Hounds of the Hills was founded in February 2012 by Daniel Feldman and Shan Ogdemli, a married couple with 2 dogs of their own. They saw a need for in-home, personalized doggie daycare and boarding when they went on their first trip after becoming dog parents and had to leave their beloved puppy, Bettie Page at a boarding “facility.” It was not a good feeling! They wished they could leave her in a comfortable home with a loving family. Soon after that they decided to start a side business out of their Hollywood Hills home to supplement the income from their art and design businesses, offering the type of in-home dog boarding and daycare thst they wished they had on that trip. The side business quickly grew into a busy full time business that became extremely popular!
While on their dog walks, Shan and Dan became friendly with a neighbor, Hazel Smith, who they would see also walking dogs often in the neighborhood. Born and raised in Goa, India, Hazel had been offering personal dog walking and dog sitting services part-time to friends and neighbors since she arrived in Los Angeles in 2013. In 2018 Shan and Dan offered her a part-time job with Hounds of the Hills, which soon became full-time. In 2020 during the pandemic, Eddie Smith III, Hazel’s husband who is also an animal lover and accomplished music producer, began finding the solace he’d been searching for by accompanying Hazel on her daily dog walks and dog park visits. In May of 2021 Shan and Dan announced their intention to move to Hawaii, pursue their art business full time and possibly sell Hounds of the Hills. Hazel and Eddie immediately expressed their interest and Shan and Dan immediately agreed that Hazel and Eddie would be the perfect team to carry on the Hounds of the Hills legacy. They quickly worked out the details and transferred operations into Hazel and Eddie’s new home in Sherman Oaks where they could continue the concept of a home-like setting for doggie daycare and boarding with personalized care that includes indoor and outdoor activities. Being able to work with dogs everyday, making them feel loved and cared for during their stay, has brought Eddie and Hazel a great amount of life joy and sense of purpose.
